Newborns are definitely the only clients that I want to be sleeping. Or in their birthday suit, for that matter. What a dear and precious life, that tiny baby. Your little one is going to outgrow that onesie before you know it! It is so important to document their stages in life. Because the skin on newborns is so soft and furry, we want to get a glimpse of that little tushy and those toes right away! The first ten days of life are the best time for these pictures! I approach these sessions with my typical style of capturing life as it happens. I will shoot a few formal-ish portraits, but want to focus on Baby, your Home, and the Family around.
Newborn Session tips and suggestions:
Dear new and tired Mama: doll yourself up softly, put some fresh, neutral clothing on, and curl your hair. If daddy’s home, he’ll be in on a few photos too. With siblings and pups, let’s plan to give them a chance to love on baby as well! Talk to the little ones about being helpers during the session, and plan a few snacks and favorite books for them to curl up with while they hang around. It is a 1 hour session or longer, with lots of soothings, shushings, feedings and changes. That’s part of these special moments you won’t want to forget. Make the beds and shove all the messes into the drawers and closets for the session. The house doesn’t have to be fancy, but do take time to tidy up, it helps the pictures have a cleaner product and you won’t be distracted by boxes of fruit snacks or tissues, stacks of mail, and computer cords in the background. Even extra shoes in the hallway or jackets over the back of a chair can be thrown into the closet for picture day!
